1. Pride or Pride?
2. Superman or Superman, as well as (to loosen the definitions a bit) Superman or Superman?
3. Somebody that I used to know, or Somebody that I used to know? (and for a rematch between the same artists, Easy way out or Easy Way Out?)
And for the bonus round, Ben Folds did an entire multi-round contest against himself on the 'Way to Normal' : The b**** went nuts or The b**** went nuts, Free coffee or Free coffee, and a bunch of others.
The Hammer and I used to play this game a lot. My answers in the comments
1. The U2 song is a classic, but it's hard to beat Elmo and the Goo Goo Dolls as a powerhouse combination.
ReplyDelete2. The Five For Fighting song is one of my favourite piano pop songs of all time - the REM track is pretty good (the 'I can see right through you' joke is a goody), but it's not in the same league. Lazlo Bane in the extended two.
3. Gotye wins narrrowly in the first round (the fight of the century ) - it's one of the few cases where a remake (thematic here, rather than a straight cover) improves on the original. Elliott Smith destroys Gotye in Ali vs. Frazier II - the Smith song is great, while the the Gotye song song stinks like a creepy one bedroom apartment.
And in the bonus round, the first in the first and the first in the second.
